Hi, I’m Hana.
I’m an artist currently studying at the University of Reading (currently in my last year!), and somehow after three years of art school I still find myself Googling ‘artist statement examples’ because writing about my own work is the most difficult part of my craft.
I draw people, and I specialise in portraits, but I love the mundane and boring as focus points and subject matter. I love the everyday associated with divinity, and I love metaphors. I love themes that are heavy and weigh on me as an artist and writer, and that will weigh on my viewer or reader. I love things that linger; ideas that stain the inside of one’s head, thoughts that won’t quite go away, staying just to whisper when the mind falls quiet. I love drawing with pencils, especially mechanical pencils— my favourite has size 0.3 lead, a gift from my brother. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember, and I am an artist before I am anything else.
